Greenville, SC – The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club is pleased to announce the award recipients of the Third Annual Hall of Fame Banquet, which will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2011 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Hyatt Regency Greenville. This year’s theme of “Heart to Hand” was inspired by this year’s award recipients. The event, presented by The Greenville News, recognizes Greenville County residents that have made significant contributions to our community through volunteerism, teaching, athletics, the arts, coaching or mentoring, or as Club members. The Hall of Fame Banquet supports The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club that was started as the Red Shield Boys Club in 1938 by P.D. Meadors, a local candy manufacturer.
The 2011 Dan Foster Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to GREENVILLE WOMEN GIVING, a local organization formed with the concept that when women are informed about philanthropy and about needs in their community, they can collectively make a real difference. They are committed to strengthening the Greenville Community through the collective resources of their members by awarding high-impact grants in five areas: arts and culture, education, health, human services, and environment. Begun in 2006, Greenville Women Giving is modeled after successful similar organizations in other communities including Seattle, Charlotte, Nashville, and Asheville.
Linda Kelly, Co-Chair of the banquet, says, “The Third Annual Boys and Girls Club Hall of Fame Banquet is proud to be honoring Greenville Women Giving with the 2011 Dan Foster Lifetime Achievement Award. The Dan Foster Award, along with six other awards, honors people whose lives are dedicated to helping others in our community.”
Community Award winners also include: JIL LITTLEJOHN – Public Servant of the Year; NANCY & PHIL EMORY – Community Volunteers of the Year; CHRISTOPHER JESSE LANE – Young Inspiration of the Year; DR. GRADY BUTLER – Mentor of the Year; DEMITRIUS JOHNSON – Club Member of the Year; and, MIKE FOSS – Club Alumnus of the Year.
